Day 1 Mon: Sydney – Griffith (D) Depart
Sydney and travel along the Hume Highway to Griffith. Enjoy a welcome
drink this evening with your Tour Director and fellow travellers. Accommodation: 1 night Griffith Motor Inn, Griffith
Day 2 Tue: Griffith - Adelaide (B,D) Today
we head towards Adelaide, travelling along the mighty Murray River. We
cross the South Australian border and travel through the vineyards and
orchards of the Riverland District to Adelaide. Accommodation: 1 night Stamford Plaza, Adelaide
Day 3 Wed: Adelaide – Flinders Ranges (B,D) Enjoy
a city tour before making our way north to sample some local wines at
Sevenhill Cellars. Later, we visit historic Quorn, before travelling
through the picturesque Flinders Ranges and into Wilpena Pound. Accommodation: 1 night Wilpena Pound, Flinders Ranges
Day 4 Thur: Flinders Ranges (B,D) Morning
free at leisure. This afternoon travel through Pitchi Richi Pass to
Port Augusta and visit the Wadlata Outback Centre. Accommodation: 1
night Standpipe Golf Motor Inn, Port Augusta.
Day 5 Fri: Coober Pedy (B,D) Today we travel to isolated Coober Pedy, the opal capital. Visit an underground church and home. Accommodation: Desert Cave Hotel, Coober Pedy
Day 6 Sat: Coober Pedy – Uluru (Ayers Rock) (B) Cross
the border into the Northern Territory and continue to Uluru-Kata Tjuta
National Park. This evening enjoy a glass of wine and nibbles as you
watch sunset over Uluru. Accommodation: 2 nights Sails in the Desert
Hotel, Ayers Rock
Day 7 Sun: Uluru – Kata Tjuta (Olgas) (B,HD) Enjoy
a guided walk into Mutitjulu Waterhole and stop at the informative
Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.You may wish to join a local
Aboriginal guide for the famous Liru Walk through bushland. This
afternoon visit Kata Tjuta and walk into Walpa Gorge. Enjoy sunset with
a glass of sparkling wine, followed by a delicious BBQ dinner under the
stars.
Day 8 Mon: Kings Canyon (B,D) Travel
to Kings Canyon today. Choose between an energetic guided climb to the
Canyon rim or alternatively explore the boulder-strewn Canyon floor, an
easier walk. Accommodation: 1 night Kings Canyon Resort
Day 9 Tue: Alice Springs (B,D) Leaving
Watarrka National Park behind, we travel to Alice Springs. Orientation
tour including a visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of
the Air and the Telegraph Station. Accommodation: 2 nights Alice Springs Resort
Day 10 Wed: Alice Springs Desert Park (B) This
morning spend time with a local Aboriginal guide on a Desert Discovery
Tour. This afternoon we travel to Standley Chasm, Simpsons Gap and the
Alice Springs Desert Park to see unique Australian animals.
Day 11 Thur: Alice Springs – Tennant Creek (B,HD) Travelling
north we arrive at Karlwekarlwe (Devils Marbles). Continue to Tennant
Creek and join a guided tour of the historic Battery Hill. Visit an
underground mine before enjoying a delicious BBQ dinner. Accommodation:
1 night Eldorado Inn, Tennant Creek
Day 12 Fri: Mataranka Springs – Katherine (B,D) Visit
the historic Daly Waters Hotel, before continuing into 'Never Never'
country. Stop at the tropical oasis of Mataranka for a relaxing dip in
the thermal springs or stroll through the Elsey Homestead replica.
Accommodation: 1 night Paraway Hotel, Katherine
Day 13 Sat: Katherine Gorge – Kakadu (B,D) We
join our local guide on an early morning cruise through Katherine Gorge
in Nitmiluk National Park. Visit the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre and then
continue deep into Kakadu National Park. Join an afternoon cruise on
the famous Yellow Water Billabong to see a variety of bird life and
with luck, the feared estuarine crocodile. Accommodation: 1 night
Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn, Jabiru
Day 14 Sun: Kakadu National Park – Darwin (B,D) Travel
to Ubirr and climb to the top of this rocky outcrop for rewarding
views. We stop at Bowali Visitor Centre in Kakadu. This afternoon
travel to Darwin and enjoy a sightseeing tour of this tropical city on
arrival. Accommodation: 2 nights Saville Park Suites, Darwin
Day 15 Mon: Litchfield National Park (B) This
morning we take a tour to Litchfield National Park to see the beautiful
Florence Falls and the mysterious Magnetic Termite Mounds. Overnight in
Darwin.
Day 16 Tue: Depart Darwin (B) Your tour concludes this morning after breakfast. You will be transferred to Darwin Airport to connect with your onward flight.
