Oberammergau
First performed in 1634, the local residents vowed to stage the 'Play of the suffering, death and resurrection os Jesus' every 10 years if God were to spare them from the effects of the bubonic plague.
In 2010, for the forty-first time, over 2,000 actors, stage technicians and musicians, all of whom are residents of the town, will bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to the ears and eyes of the audience in a five-hour presentation on the impressive open-air stage. The play covers the period of Jesus entering Jerusalem and continues up to his death on the cross and his resurrection.
