Penang

Penang Island lies in the waters of the Straits of Malacca, just off Malaysia’s west coast. This small tropical island is only 15 miles long and 10 miles wide and enjoys uncrowded beaches, lush gardens and historic temples. The most popular beach area, Batu Ferringhi, is a 2-mile stretch of beach where you’ll find most of the major resort hotels.

There's more to Penang than lounging on the beach. Georgetown, the fascinating capital, provides a taste of the island's colonial past and features one of the largest 'Chinatowns' in South East Asia. There are a number of modern shopping malls as well as a huge day and night market for all those holiday bargain buys!

Eating out in Penang is a feast for the senses, with rich colours, a myriad of flavours and a variety of textures to entice you. The local cuisine features delicious delicacies inspired by Indian and Malaysian culture with native specialities including satay fish, laksa and prawn noodles. Enjoy a choice of memorable dining experiences, from fine dining in top class restaurants to authentic hawker fare from a local stall.
Take the time to explore Penang's lush, hilly interior and enjoy its stunning natural environment. There are some fine views and photo opportunities from the top of Penang Hill - reached by funicular railway. Must-see sights include the Kek Lok Si Temple and Khoo Kongsi, an opulent Chinese clan house with a colourful display of dragon carvings and paintings.
