Holy Land 101: Everything you need to know before your visit

It’s not only one of our most popular destinations, but is also a destination that many are unfamiliar with when planning their trip. If you’re planning a visit to the Holy Land, we’re here to make sure you’re fully prepared for the trip of a lifetime!

Our Holy Land tours visit Jerusalem, Tiberias, Tel Aviv, Bethlehem, River Jordan, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee and much more. With such a variety of destinations, there can be plenty to cover when preparing for your trip, which can make it even easier to forget something! So, we’d like to help... we’ve put together a shortlist of everything you need to know before your visit to the Holy Land.

Please make sure that your passport has at least 6 months remaining in date before you travel to the Holy Land. When travelling to certain destinations this is crucial, so we recommend adding this to the top of your list (just like we have!)

In Israel, Shekels is the currency used. As this can be difficult to get exchanged at home we recommend only changing a small amount of money to Shekels. This will be solely for tipping or buying bottled water etc. A number of currencies are widely accepted in the Holy Land, both Euro and US Dollar are accepted. So no need to change all of your money as it will be welcomed in shops and restaurants.

Dress codes can vary from place to place depending on where you’re going or what you’re doing. We recommend bringing multiple light layers as the weather is warm during the day but can get cooler in the evening. Most visits you will need to wear clothing that covers from the shoulders to the knees. It can be extremely useful to pack a scarf or shawl wrap that can be used to cover up when needed. Modest clothing is recommended when packing. Should you wish to take part in the full submersion at River Jordan you will need to bring a swimsuit and a towel. Comfortable walking shoes are a must on your trip to the Holy Land. As there will be some walking for tours and excursions – comfort is key!

The safety of our clients is our top priority. Should the Irish Government give a directive that it is not safe to travel to Israel, the tour would not go ahead and you would be entitled to a full refund of all monies paid. While in Israel, our agents would always monitor the situation and adapt the programme if needed on the ground.
