The Phoenician and Greek descendants created a city on the shore of the Guadalquivir and named it Ispal. It was later called Hispalis and is considered to be the origin of Seville. For a time, Seville was dominated by Arabs and many changes occured in the city. Many years later, Ferdinand III The Saint conquested Seville for Christianity and a lot of churches were built to replace mosques. He stayed there until he died and is considered as Seville’s patron saint. Alfonso X, his son, continued his father's work after his death. He established a tolerant reign which allowed the Jewish, Arab and Christian’s knowledge to boom.

The 17th century saw the decline of Seville. A plague divided the population by two. After the Independence War and another plague epidemic, Seville experienced a period of prosperity under Queen Elisabeth. In the 20th century, Seville began to grow and flourish as a city.
